This beautifully refreshing, biodynamic rose is mostly made of Bobal grape, which is local to Manchuela,Valencia. Grapes are sourced from a 40-year old plot called Las Cañadas, planted by Juan-Antonio’s grandfather with some scattered white Albilla grapes which are included in the blend.
Grapes: Bobal 90%, Albilla 10%
Region: Manchuela, Spain
Tasting notes/pairing options: As there was almost no skin contact, the wine is pale, but it has plenty of character and aromas are earthier than other rosés often found in the zone. A clarete rather than rosado, beautifully refreshing with some salinity from the Albilla.
Biodynamic, suitable for vegans and vegetarians
Juan Antonio is a leading figure in biodynamic and natural winemaking in his native Cuenca. His vineyards are at high altitude for Jumilla, and sit on a combination of clay, limestone and sandstone soils. His vines are between 30 and 90 years old, and some of them are still planted on their own root stocks. He works wonders with unfashionable, local grape Bobal, which maintains acidity well in this warm, arid climate. In the winery, his ethos is to let the wine make itself, the bunches are not de-stemmed which means semi-carbonic maceration occurs in the tank, and all the wines are fermented and aged in neutral oak to let each parcel reflect its own personality.
We are a close family business and are currently in our second generation. We are based on our natural lavender farm, Yorkshire Lavender in the North Yorkshire countryside.
So why wine?
With a member of our staff, Timi, a trained sommelier; it seemed crazy to let that enthusiasm and experience go to waste.
